1. Do Indian, Bangladeshi & Maldivian Citizens Need a Visa?
No, citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives DO NOT require a visa to enter Bhutan. However, they must obtain an Entry Permit at the border or airport.
2. Entry Permit Process
Documents Required:
- For Indians: Voter ID card OR Passport.
- For Bangladeshis & Maldivians: Passport with at least 6 months validity.
How to Obtain an Entry Permit?
- Permits can be obtained on arrival at entry points in Bhutan.
- Travelers can also apply online in advance via the Bhutan e-Permit system to reduce border wait times.
3. Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) for Indian, Bangladeshi & Maldivian Nationals
- Indian Citizens: INR 1,200 per night.
- Bangladeshi & Maldivian Citizens: USD $15 per night.
- Children under 5 years: Exempt.
- Children aged 6-12 years: 50% discount on SDF.

By Air:
- Paro International Airport (flights from India, Nepal, Thailand, and Singapore).
By Land (India-Bhutan Border Points):
- Phuentsholing: Entry from Jaigaon (West Bengal, India).
- Gelephu: Entry from Assam, India.
- Samdrup Jongkhar: Entry from Assam, India (Eastern Bhutan).
5. Important Notes for Indian, Bangladeshi & Maldivian Travelers
- Indian travelers can use Voter ID or Passport for entry.
- Bangladeshi & Maldivian travelers must use a valid passport.
- Permits are issued for a limited duration; extensions are possible at the Immigration Office in Thimphu.
